the repeated mistakes for events

I attended the Gerak Usahawan IPT held in University of Malaya yesterday, out of support to friends who have worked tirelessly in organizing the event as well as anything that's related to entrepreneurial activities for the students/youths albeit the hibernate-mode I have chosen at the moment.

Yes, the whole event seemed 'big' and very well planned and the organizer is prepared to host an event catered for the youths. With the big marquee, stalls opened by students, banks opening up their booths, talks by gov't and potential-funder to the students.

However, upon asking the students that came to the event yesterday, the answers that I pretty much get were:

i. it's boring
ii. they are made compulsory to come by their faculties
iii.curious
iv.to check out the stalls by the students

I checked out the talks that were meant for the students, but what i saw was the number of students that attended were very little, they didn't listen much to the speakers and they were begged to go there.

And the banks that opened their booths during the event were not really engaging the students.

This happened very often in the past. Where big events that were 'made' t0 be for the youths especially ones where it is specializing in youths-entrepreneurs,the 'syok-sendiri' happened.

When we are talking about engaging the youths, have they in the first place surveyed the youths market in the first place? It is such a mistake to assume that just because you were youths once, doesn't mean the youths then and now is the same. The differences that exist between these two are huge, literally.

Just to get a point across, but anyone who has an event to organize that in particular addresses the youths should look at the sustainability angle much more seriously so we don't waste too much money in a one-off event.

I'm not looking to become a populist,if there are people who felt disappointed or my thoughts are irrelevant, i have gone past the time where now I don't care what people think of anymore. It's either you accept and learn or you can simply close this blog and be done with it-go waste more money lah.
