Throughout the years I have been in Kuala Lumpur, I have always constantly come across some so-called 'smart' asses that pointing out to the people from Sabah and Sarawak as still living in the jungle, with the typical dressings of those during the rentap-era (Iban warrior).
I am for one, am not embarrassed of my history and the cultures and customs that were being practiced and worn during that time but as with many other races in the world, with proper guidance and development, each race advances forward and so do we who come from Borneo.
This is also one part that makes the people there felt alienated when these smart-asses being insensitive to others in their slur, comments, and however you wish to call it. I look at it as insults.
Many times over, if they want to touch on the subject of 'being civilized' and civilization, obviously their words and knowledge of the modern world that span more from their local areas of the modern city of 'Kuala Lumpur' pointed out how shallow and narrow these people really are.
And one thing that continue to amaze me is the loop-hole in comparing Kuala Lumpur with Kuching or Kota Kinabalu where in this instance, KL is the capital of the country whereas the latter places are the capitals for states. You can't expect the development to be of higher standards and in faster pace when KL is the capital of the country after all.
If we are to continue discussing on the subject of civilization based on their context and point of view, I somehow can offer no more than sympathy. Once, twice being thrown that kind of insults is fine, just fine although infuriating. But more than that, I would challenge them with a question, when is a place, can be considered as modern? You want to touch on the subject of civilization?Does having high-rise buildings, skyscrapers and LRT's and Monorail's make it modern?
If you consider that as being modern, that you're wrong.and pathetic I might add. With the majority are suffering from their inabilities to support their standard of living as the living cost rises, crimes increase due to lack of respect to the law, people are being disrespectful towards one another, you call that being modern? Truly, I can sum that up as a shell without anything inside.Nothing.nada.
Don't waste my time on pressing the issues through means of mockery, insults and slurs such as those if you do not know the subject enough. If we are talking about becoming a modern nation by the year of 2020,I'd say we are far from it because this simple scenario shows that we are still a century away.
I dare you to challenge me with facts, not empty words and stupid tongues. I know where my home is.I am proud of it. And that's not going to change.
