PEPPINO D'AGOSTINO is OUR GUITARIST THIS WEEKEND!

World renowned acoustic guitarist Peppino D'Agostino is our guest this weekend. We caught up with him while on tour with Eric Johnson and Andy McKee. Our host Rusty Cooley sits down with the guitar master to discuss many topics ranging from alternate tunings, sounds, songwriting and expanding beyond what you are currently playing and learning.

Peppino D’Agostino doesn’t just play the guitar. He composes, arranges, collaborates, improvises and has even been known to sing a song here and there in both English and Italian. But what he does create on the guitar makes the difference between simply playing and truly making music apparent in the most wonderful ways.

D’Agostino has been hailed as “a guitarist’s guitarist” by Acoustic Guitar magazine as well as “a giant of the acoustic guitar” (San Diego Reader), and holds many top guitar awards, but the San Francisco Chronicle encapsulated the essential difference that distinguishes D’Agostino’s music when it dubbed him “a poet.”

That poetic eloquence, grace and magic suffuses Nine White Kites, his first album of new compositions for the guitar in a decade (during which time he’s done much else wonderful with his musical talents). The set of 11 songs and two bonus tracks launches with the soaring fingerpicking of the title track, leading the listener through a tour de force showcase of D’Agostino’s mastery and artistry.

This is one episode you don't want to miss!

BAND OF THE WEEK! - REVERSION from Helsinki, Finland

About

A progressive metal act, Reversion, hailing from Helsinki, Finland is now setting the new standards when talking about aggressive and experimental metal. Reversions founding duo includes vocalist Aleksi Parviainen and guitarist Samuli Federley. Together they gathered the best possible line-up to execute the wild and furious notes that have since made Reversion known across the underground metal scene of the capital area. The mindstorming brothers in arms are bassist Jaakko Nikko, drummer Toni Paananen and keyboardist Jonne Jauhiainen.

Reversions music could be best described as multilayered, professionally played aggressive, yet melodic metal with a touch of oriental flavour, combining real-life lyrics that together creates interesting and profound music that appeals to listeners throughout the rock genre.

Past

During 2004 and 2006 Reversion made two demos, which were rated high on the metal oriented webzines. We got some offers from various record labels and finally made a deal which Finnish company called Kampas Records. So Reversion entered the studio at spring of 2008 and the record, which was titled as King of Deceit, was released on next July. It got a very good response and Reversion did a lot of furious gigs around Finland and we got some reputation as a wild live machine. You can listen some of the tracks from KoD from our myspace at www.myspace.com/reversionband.com.

Present

We have just finished the recordings of our second album and it is going to be released early on 2011. The new music has even harder edge to it and it will definitely blow some minds after it’s out. You can watch some live videos of us performing two of the new songs at Finland’s most legendary rock club Tavastia from here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWqWYwwyHEQand here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U2ERCHKmaA&feature=related.

Roxy Taylor Rock Report!

Welcome back to the greatest guitar television show to blast onto the screen – Rusty Cooley’s Guitar Asylum TV. Today, I’m reporting on the upcoming NAMM 2011 Show. For those of you who are fans of all things music, NAMM is a conference covering the global music products industry. Those who work in the music industry invade Anaheim, CA every January to see all the new products coming to a music store near you.

Guitars, basses, drums, electronic recording and more will be displayed at NAMM. The whole Rusty Cooley Guitar Asylum TV crew will be attending and getting interviews from companies and artists. The companies we will be featuring are Orange Amps, Blackstar Amps, Peavey Electronics, MTD Basses, Rocktron, Morley, Dean Guitars, Fuchs Amps, 3rd Power Amplification and Coffin Case and many others. We will also be interviewing many of the guitarists you know and love.

I get the pleasure to interview Lynda Kay, the wife of Jonny Coffin (Jon Edwards). She is amazing! If you want to see cool put back into country & western music, look no further than Lynda Kay. Check out her website www.lyndakay.com . I like interviewing people who know who they are and are focused on their type of music. Many artists today blend into a melting pot that makes them all sound alike! Ugh! Not Lynda Kay! She’s got style, a great sound and plays a Gretsch guitar, so I’m biased in that respect. Can’t wait for this one!

I will be coming to you ‘LIVE’ every evening from NAMM to give you an update of who got interviewed, from companies to artists. Rusty Cooley will be interviewing many people as well as guitar tech guru Mike Nedd and me!

Also, we will be interviewing some of the biggest names in guitar in the month of January (I can’t tell you who they are yet, but I KNOW who they are!) getting ready for the debut of Rusty Cooley’s Guitar Asylum TV – The Craziest Place of Earth for the Musically Insane on February 5, 2011 on Houston’s Channel 55 and simulcast online worldwide, so no one will miss an episode!

This is Roxy Taylor, you’ve been strapped down and medicated. The Asylum awaits you!
