A couple of weeks ago, I posted this. Link
So, here's the sequel! :)

No,not any copy of the documents that were handed to me during the SRD. Here though, I just want to share the experience I had when attended the SRD which stands for shell recruitment day.

Basically, before you're off to attend the SRD, you'll be informed like a week before the event (at least that how it was for me) and you then have to download the briefing pack that would tell you what you should bear in mind, the necessary things to bring and read about. It's nothing much and I do want to remind you that it is very important to read it. Compulsory.

So, before the event itself, you'll have to attend the pre-SRD which is pretty much a briefing session from Shell to the SRD candidates. Here is your chance to get a little insights as to what can be expected on the day itself and other candidates. Here's why: there are a lot of unexpected things that would take place on SRD and you will also have to work with the other candidates. Thus why it is important for you to attend the pre-SRD day!Again, Compulsory. Unless you are very confident with passing the SRD, then by all means, don't go. :)

Okay now, the SRD. There are 3 things for that day, 1 is the case study. 2. group discussion. 3.business scenario review. Personally for me the case study was the f**king hardest of the three because you have to extract key issues and information from 21 pages (for my case) that consist of emails, newspaper cuttings, graphs, etc and you are given 1.5 hours to read and do all that I said just now. And once you're hour is up, you will then head into another room where you will be interviewed by 2 interviewers. Gosh, the questions were really unexpected (you thought you had it all covered!) and they really were assessing you on your critical thinking skills.Damn it.They won't rest but of course, you can request for a time-out if you're too nervous. I did just that. XD

Secondly,as for the group discussion. This is pretty fun because you'll get the chance to interact with other candidates while being evaluated. This is easier than the first and for my case, my team mates and I had to discuss how best to manage the fund given by Shell for social initiatives projects. The important thing during this session is to talk, participate and engage others actively. The evaluators will want to see you active and after the discussion is over, they will each ask question to everyone in the team. Don't worry. It's not really difficult, so just do your best here! again, another XD

Thirdly, the business scenario.Okay, for this part you will be given a task of choosing whether you'd become the human resource, IT, sales and marketing, account and one more I forgot (sorry!) but anyway, you are asked to pick one of these positions and then, once you have selected, you will be given a case study base on your choosing earlier. It's pretty simply and unlike the first session, this is only one page. So,that's why it is much easier and the questions (again, 2 interviewers) are much more straight-forward. And oh, after you have ended the first part of this business scenario, there will be a second part where they will be asking about your accomplishments and how you work in a team, based on real-life experience. Simple right?

All in all, it all comes down to you. Shell wants to see how you respond, how you work in a group, how you handle yourself when under pressure and they are there to see whether you are fit to be part of the organization. Don't worry too much. If you are selected for SRD, just do your best, relax and enjoy the experience.

Even if you don't succeed, the experience is certainly a memorable one. I made 7 friends that day and I'm still in contact with them.

Finally, Good luck and all the best. God bless!

Clive

p.s. If you have any questions or any more inquiries, just ask! Don't be shy. I am more than willing to help. :)
