My Friend Pinto Movie Review

MY FRIEND PINTO tries so hard to be a crazy roller coaster ride. The character of Michael Pinto, portrayed by Prateik, bears similarities to the iconic characters played by Charlie Chaplin and Raj Kapoor. But what comes across is an exercise in vain. The film stands on a waferthin plot and to make matters worse, the film tries so very hard to tickle your funny bone. But falls flat on its face! .MY FRIEND PINTO suffers on various counts. First of all, it is hard to believe that someone can be so naïve in today's times. Even if one were to believe that Pinto is indeed the 'innocent' one, the film is packed with ridiculous situations and characters that make you squirm in your seat. If the intention was to make you laugh, sorry, this film doesn't! On the whole, MY FRIEND PINTO is a terrible waste of a terrific opportunity!

Slapstick humor is like a many-times-patched, retreaded tyre often rolled out during the second half of the film hoping to accelerate the pace. But slapstick needs to be combined with an edgy script, crisp repartee and laugh-a-minute gags to keep the audience engaged and entertained. My Friend Pinto which was probably planned as a social satire on urban life style and the inherent callousness of ruthless money minded city slickers turns into a meaningless one-night stand. Pun intended.See this only if you are a Prateik Babbar fan. Else avoid.

It's still exciting when the film captures the relatively sanitised chaos of the south of Bombay, a real city. These are interesting times. Different voices. Newer faces. Still Bollywood. The material here may be a lot better than the movie. But it doesn't quite disappoint you still. Which is great to know. And you should be good to go.

My Friend Pinto unfolds in one night, when Michael has a brush with the “strange city, strange people.” The film has some funny and many not-so-funny yet endearing moments involving the good-natured mama’s boy, Michael. My Friend Pinto is one happy, no-frills film that’s sure to make you smile. As one of the characters rightly says, a smile is what we need the most sometimes. Recommended.

The only way this kind of film can work is if the director can weave in a fable-like quality. The trouble with `My Friend Pinto’ is that it takes so long to get to the point where it starts to feel like a film that you almost give up. Prateik veers between hamsville and some nice moves, in which he manages to pull it together : Koechlin plays well in bits and pieces, too. And the end is energetic, making up, somewhat, for the random, chaotic air the film has worn till it gets there. But the rest is strictly amateursville.

My Friend Pinto’ tries to tickle one’s funny bones and give a feel good factor by presenting a cute and gullible character Pinto in the big bad city of Mumbai where people have forgotten to smile with the hustle bustle in their lives. Apart from Pinto, the plot is extremely chaotic and lacks any basic storyline. There are too many sub plots which makes the climax unintentionally funny, but extremely inspiring.Alas, ‘My Friend Pinto’ is not what we had hoped for, though the light hearted comedy can be a onetime watch as Prateik is cute in his role of a gullible guy.
