Review: Bodyguard
Verdict: Great!
"K" Rating: 3.0
Watch: Theater
Bodyguard is the Hindi remake of south superhit film of the same name, made earlier in Tamil/Telegu/Malyalam.Remake wise its a definite step up from the recent remakes.
The movie was falsely marketed as an action film - it is essentially a beautiful love story. The action sequences makeup only for about 0.5 hrs of the entire movie. Karishma Kapoor's voice over for Kareena adds interesting "tadka" to the screenplay. Kareena Kapoor is excellent in the movie and portrays a gamut of emotions skillfully. Salmaan - the more said, the little it is - he plays the role of the innocent, clear hearted yet strong Bodyguard to the hilt with plenty of style and panache. Hazel and Aditya Pancholi were a surprise onscreen.Katrina Kaif looks stunning and adds oodles of oomph to the title track, dancing with Salmaan.
What makes it Sizzle: the film works 3 big reasons:
1. Salman Khan - he looks better each day and in top form.
2. Amazing chemistry between Kareena & Salmaan - reminds one of the original romatic Salmaan.
Scene with Kareena & Salmaan at the nightclub creates magic.
3. Kudos to the twist in the film - it adds a new spin to age old/predictable stories. We live in a real world where trust, honesty and integrity are becoming rare by the day. Siddique should be lauded for just attempting - we EOB, hope that other filmmakers also pay heed.
What makes it Fizzle:
1. It is a south remake - hence some sequences seem alien and humour unfit for the North audience - case in point Tsumani character.
2. Lack of realism - yes, there are parts in the inherent storyline which are very unrealistic. But we live in a world with movies like Golmaal/Dhamaal et al, hence can be forgiven in the larger picture.
Music by Himmesh Reshmmya is already ruling the charts. "Tere Meri" and "I Love You" are great.
Its a full on Hindi masala flick, watch to enjoy!

Review: Ready
Verdict: Timepass
For this movie, you've got to ask yourself are YOU Ready for just watching Salmaan Khan?? *leaving your logic, verisimilitude outside the theater. If so, then get "Ready" for a full on comedy film with a healthy dose of drama and good music. Directed by Aneez Bazme, its a remake of a 2008 Telgu hit film of the same name.
The threadbare storyline revolves around Prem (Salman Khan) who falls in love with an imposter Sanjana (Asin) amidst a twisted plot of greedy warring uncles who want her wealth.Add to this Prem's "Hum Saath Saath Hain" type family who stand by thier son to get his love. The film is full of cheesy one-liners, and anything-for-a-laugh scenes. At one point Salmaan rips his shirt off and asks "Maaza aaya?". The movie also is painfully dragged out towards the end.
Salmaan is in his full form, in this movie he had little/no scope to perform but plenty to entertain - which he does with his great comic timing and by his mere screen presence. Prem aka Salmaan describes his ideal woman in the movie - Khurrat, Kamini aur Honhaar. Well vivacious & gorgeous Asin definately fits the bill as Sanjana. Zarine Khan looks stunning in her cameo/item song. Ajay Devgn, Arbaaz Khan & Kangana Ranout can also been seen a short cameo.

The album contains footappers like "Character Dheela","Meri Ada"and "Dinka Chika" to soft ballads like "Humko Pyar Ho Gaya". Each song is complemented with "Salmaan moves" and/or breath taking locales of Bangkok.
Overall its a timepass movie which one can watch and laugh at certain scenes without getting too involved.

Review: Dabangg
"K" Rating: 3.7/5
Watch: Theater/DVD
"Dabangg" means "Fearless". It is the story of a corrupt and fearless cop Chulbul Pandey, who has a troubled relationship with his family. He is "Robinhood" Pandey, in a lawless land, follow him in his journey as he tries to bridge the gap of the family and deal with the hoods in his mad unparalleled ways.Sonakshi Sinha (d/o Shatrughan Sinha) makes her debut with this film playing Chulbul Pandey's love interest. The film brings back to celluloid the Masala flicks synonymous with the 80-90s era which were filled with emotion, drama, action, love story and item numbers. Its packed hilarious witty dialogues, intense action sequences sprinkled with excellent comic timing and Salmaan Khan like never before.
Salmaan's characterization is fresh aswell as endearing and plays on his strengths - intensity and comedy.Dabangg has a befitting ensemble cast of Arbaaz Khan as the dimwit half-brother, Sonu Sood as the acrimonious villain along with Vinod Khanna, Dimple Kapdia.Malika Arora looks fabulous in the item number. Barring a few hiccups on the storyline with band-aid scenes and some half baked roles like that of Mahesh Manjrekar the film is a full-on entertainer.Dabangg breaks the modern trend of having boorish dialogues in action/rustic movies.
Music of Dabangg is good and accentuates the film very well."Tere Mast Mast Nain", "Chori Kiya Re", "Udd Udd Dabangg" (this one reminds me of Omkara) and even "Munni Badnam" songs are doing especially well on the charts.
On the whole Chulbul Pandey aka Robinhood Pandey will make the audience fall in love with him and make the box-office say "kaaaching".

Review: Kurbaan
Verdict: Good."K" Rating: 3.5/5
Watch: Theater/DVD
Debutant director Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan is a good watch for Theater or DVD.The movie foremost is a love thriller which is bound to send chills down your spine. The screenplay is gripping and keeps the audience on tenterhooks thought the 2.5 hours.
Kurbaan amalgamates both Fanna and New York (infiltrating a sleeper bunker & marriage to a terrorist),then takes it a step
further. Its journey of a girl finding love in India to uncovering the heinous truth of her south Asian (read Stepfordish from the Stepford Wives) neighbourhood in America.Kareena has given a fantastic performance of an unsuspecting Hindu wife Avantika trapped in a world of love, deceit, terrorism and orthodox Islam. Saif gives his usual flawless performance. Vivek has definitely grown as an actor - his American accent is fantastic as he doesn't go over board with it. Music of Kurbaan is great and already a favorite at the charts. Kareena's ankle length kurtas designed by Aki Narula are bound to become a fashion rage.

There are 3 flaws in the story of Kurbaan, two of which however can be written off as cinematic privileges. These include terrorists who induct a new recruit in their mission without doing any background check, a war journalist(Vivek) not notifying the FBI till the end and thus endangering innocent lives. Third and the most inexcusable one being when Avantika(Kareena) decides to call an individual rather then the cops when she uncovers a plot to blow up a plane. These faux pas eat away one point off the "K" rating.

Review: London Dreams
Verdict: Good."K" Rating: 3/5
Watch: DVD

Watch: DVD
London Dream has an apt star cast with friendship, professional jealousy and insecurity forming the backdrop . London Dreams would be a winner had it not been for its music and weak ending. The outburst of Ajay, Salmaan's saintly behaviour at the end lack verisimilitude. The movie misses out on a perfect ending due to an unnecessary song sequence. Music of the film by Shankar Ehsaan Loy does not do justice to the beautiful shots of the performances.
Watch: For great performances by the Salmaan and Ajay- they have proved themselves yet again.Comic timing and pronunciations/new lingo of Salmaan's Character. Emotional intensity of the film and good cinematography make it a DVD watch.

Story: Remember Shakalaka Boom Boom? (*ing Bobby Deol/Upen Patel) maybe not. SBB like London Dreams is based on a old hollywood flick Amadeus. Its a story about 2 friends - the introvert, ambition driven Arjun and the fun-loving, carefree aimless Manjeet(Manu). They say ambition is self driven but talent is gods given. This drives a wedge between the two friends when Arjun brings Manu to London to join his Band but discovers Manu's muscial genius. Asin look good as a rocker girl and pairs with Salmaan beautifully.
("K" rating reflects my personal star rating from now on. I thank my brother for the suggestion)

Review: Mein Aurr Mrs Khanna
Verdict: Good. simple storyStar Rating: 3/5
Watch: Dvd
This movie is definitely for the "Classes" therefore may not fare well at the box office. Mein Aurr Mrs Khanna is a simple, sweet movie minus the regular Bollywood masalas of elaborate dances or fights. A little more of emotional drama would have helped the audience to connect with the characters and story of the movie. Nonetheless its a light entertainer. Go to theater for the locales of Australia or if you are a Salmaan fan otherwise wait for the DVD.
Story: Raina Khanna's (Kareena) to Sameer(Salmaan) is going thru a rough patch. Sameer elects to try his luck in another country and decides to send Raina back to India. True to a 21st century woman Kareena decides to stay back in Melbourne and be self sufficient while giving her husband a chance at success. Enter Aakash (Sohil) in their lives, thus begins a journey of finding love amidst all the complications it brings.

Watch: Beautiful shots of Australia. Salman & Kareena! This is one of those casual movies, that one wants to watch to relax without having to watch action or silly comedy. Salmaan is a very polished role as apposed to Wanted!Kareena is looking good and has given a great performance. Sohil provides the lighter moments of the film. Don't miss the airplane scene and the ending of the film!

Salmaan Khan: Being Human
Salmaan Khan promoted his NGO - "Being Human" at the HDIL Couture Fashion Week in Mumbai by a especial fashion show. Outfits of top designers such as Rocky S, Shane & Falguni Precock,Rahul Khanna, Rohit Gandhi, Ashish Soni and few others were chosen to be part of the show - all sporting the tag line "Bring Human".Seen on the ramp and show were biggies like Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Govinda,Sanjay Dutt, brothers Sohil & Arbaaz, Sushmita Sen, Katrina Kaif. Also spotted were Malika Arora Khan with sister Amrita Arora Ladhak, Shridevi with her husband Bony Kapoor and kids, Kajol.
Interestingly all the gowns featured in the show were Salmaan Khan paintings transferred onto fabric. However the black n while gown Katrina Kaif wore was a Falguni Preacock creation hand painted by Salmaan Khan himself!! (Painting of a Saint).Salmaan has never painted a dress for anyone before, Katrina must feel special.
A memorable evening with glittering stars, good music (from upcoming coming movies Blue/Mein Aur Mrs Khanna/ All the Best) supporting a good cause. After all its all about "Being Human".
The Being Human Foundation is an NGO supporting the cause of education and health care for the underprivileged children.
You can support the cause by buying:
* Being Human Tshirts/clothes - from the fashion show.
* Being Human Watches
