The things we do before we are off to the dreamland can significantly affect the sleeping-process. Or So I said. Please don't take it as facts or reference for your thesis. But these things are what I usually do before I call it a night and helps me to sleep better.
1.
Meditation
Meditating as in sitting out in the balcony, or anywhere where there is not much noise and simply closing your eyes and submit yourself to nature. You want to clear your troubled mind and it will be very helpful for you to have a nice "clean" mind before sleeping.
I love doing this in the balcony, close my eyes and just relax there, for about half an hour or so.
Just imagine yourself in a forest, with the forest all around you. Focus on one particular sound and get your mind focused. Clear everything...and mind you, this helps as you relax your muscle and your thoughts are slowly going to the same place instead of scattered all over.
2.
No Coffee. Instead, take Green Tea!
Well, yeah, it makes sense isn't it? Coffee is often equated with staying up. But I often find it relaxing when I have good hot tea just before I switch off the light and trying to sleep. It helps you to be in the right frame of mind. You need to be calm and prepare yourself for the wonderful world of sleeping!
It can be any tea. I just love green tea though. Ho Ho.
3.
Read a book. Dim the light.
Well, when I am trying to read the book, with the words so small and the room not so bright, I can easily be very sleepy after a few minutes. Try this. This is an important process for me every night!
4.
Play of list of relaxing songs and loop them for 1-2 hour.
After you've read the book and you're feeling sleepy already, take the remote control and switch on the ipod to play the playlist you've set earlier - switch off the light and you're ready to sleep.
On my playlist, it is often Louis Amstrong. His songs seem to be very helpful.
5.
Breathe in and count 1. Breathe out and count 2. Repeat the process.
When everything is in place - the music, the darkness - it is time for you to perform the final process, which is the breathe in breathe out. This practice actually helps you to clear your head and drift off to sleep easily after that.
Haven't you notice, when you have many things in your head as you lie in your bed every night, it's very hard to sleep?
So, do this! I've been doing this for many times over and over. it helps.
Well, there you go - the 5 steps to help you sleep.
To me, sleeping in the night is a very important process, that's why I always ways to improve the experience better from time to time.
and oh, good morning if you've tried these steps!
Be well, ladies and gents!
